If you use the South Tampa portions of these streets primarily to go back and forth to work, your tunnel vision may be leading you to zoom past some of the most charming shops in town. But if you get your ass out of the car and onto the sidewalks, your gift recipient will be grateful for the effort. The Pine Shop (3105 W. Bay To Bay Blvd., 813-839-2076). Damn, this place smells good. The scent of pine, cedar, maple

Who it helps: Really, really big cats. Where to give: www.bigcatrescue.org, or send donations to 12802 Easy St., Tampa, FL 33625. This holiday season, forgo that $10,000 fur coat for your spouse and spend the money on the animals who owned the fur in the first place at Big Cat Rescue. Formerly known as Wildlife on Easy Street (we always loved that name), BCR cares for more than 150 rare and exotic cats at its 45-acre sanctuary, all through public

This colorful neighborhood along Gulfport's Beach Boulevard is a treat just to wander around in. Plenty of artists call the area home, and it shows in the brightly painted, mermaid-bedecked houses, front doors and mailboxes. The Village has an art walk each month, where you'll find the shops open late and a block-party vibe going on. Or just drive over on a Saturday afternoon, meet some of the friendly locals and shop for gifts with a distinctly Florida feel. Beach
